SPECIAL NEEDS CLUB

It is with a sense of sadness that we must announce St Mark’s Special Needs Club will be winding up. Our Club was established by Father Sweeney around 1980, when there were very limited social activities being offered, or available, to vulnerable people. The purpose was to provide a sociable setting whereby our members could enjoy friendships, share music, dancing, singing, light refreshments and seasonable parties, in addition to day trips and many weekend holiday breaks.
Prior to Covid parents could rely on it being a regular slot, on the first Saturday of the month, providing downtime for them. However, since early 2020 COVID has been an issue stopping the regular attendance at our disco. COVID is still an issue today, particularly for people with health issues, which many of our Group experience.
Sadly, many of our committee are no longer with us or are no longer able to support the group but, on the other hand, there are now many other ventures which meet the needs of vulnerable people.
As we are a registered charity the club will close in line with the requirements of our constitution and the OSCR (Office of the Scottish Charity Regulator). The remaining funds of £7,700 being dispersed as directed by both.
Thank you to all who supported our club over the years.
